Cake in a Box

Hi friends,
Today I have this cake in a box to share with you. I LOVE the idea of putting these little cakes in a box rather than squishing them in a card. I first saw these on Patty Lee's blog and instantly was smitten with her beautiful creations. My box only has 4 flaps, so it's simple to close & when you lift the lid off, it blooms open. So let's get on with the deets...

Here's a top view: I used my gold leaf pen to ink up the sides instead of using gold paper. (a very effective trick!)

Closer from the top: Prima flowers were used
Front details: I added a gold doily under the cake which happened to be a perfect size!
Here's the left side: I created the candles from scrap pieces. I used my score-pal to add lines for dimension. The little flames were painted with gold Shimmerz (Blingz).

Here's the right side: I created a little pocket where I added some "dough" for her spending pleasure :)
Side view: The top flap has "Happy Birthday" and a sentiment stamped on it in gold. The bottom flap is where we wrote our message & signed it.
Here's the box closed:Closing it is easy. (Aren't you glad I didn't say "it was a piece of cake!") With one hand, gather 3 sides & with the lid scoop up the last side & cover it.

I will be posting a tutorial on how to create these little rosebuds, if anyone is interested. Visit Patty's blog to see her stunning work which inspired what you see today.
You have to go see what she's created with this die. She's one of my fav's!
