Cake in a Box Version 2

Hi ya friends,
Today I have one of my little projects to share with ya. Remember this Cake in a Box I posted waaaay back? Well, I've made another one, just a little different, but I think a little better. Want to see why??? Well, let me show you the projects first:

Here's the card by itself:
I used Prima flowers and Snag 'Em stamp: Piece of Cake set. Inside each HB circle I added a button. Quick & easy card in 10 minutes or less.

And here's the box by itself:
I randomly stamped the lid with one of the stamps from the Piece of Cake set. I added glue in a circular motion & added superfine glitter to the centers of each circle. It's a really fun detail. I wrapped some Pebbles Ribbon around the lid. If you notice, you'll see the lid has little candles going all around it. I used the border punch for that. I colored the flames with Y15.

When you lift off the lid, it blooms open to reveal:

Tadaaaah! It's a real cake in a box! (Hostess cupcake). This one's edible which makes it better in my book! This is very easy to create & a sweet way to give someone a yummy birthday treat too. This is something I actually do with my students for their birthday (not this embellished :) My teacher friend, Jean shared this idea years ago. I thought I'd put it in a box! I cut the sentiments with the Wild Card Cricut Cart. I popped them on with foam adhesive. I stamped another "Happy Birthday circle" punched it out & punched a smaller hole to put the candle through it. I wrapped a scrap piece of the Pebbles ribbon around it.

Here are some more peeks at it:
I left the bottom panel empty so I can write my message there.

Yuppers, you guessed it. I have a video tut coming to show you how easy it is to create. I'll put it on this post if you want to check later this week. Sorry, but we're headed to Tahoe for the long weekend, so I'm not going to be able to get to it before then :( My brother will house sit for us, so Rosie (my tarantula) won't get lonely ;)

Thanks for peeking at my little project. Hope ya liked it :)
Gotta get packing!

Layouts

Hi there friends,
I had some time to play on Monday (thanks to Abe ;) so I finally got around to finishing these 3 double page layouts I picked up at the Scrapbook Expo last month and I wanted to share them with ya.

Making Cookie Dough:

Memories 4 Ever:

and Summer Fun in the Sun:
These were offered as make & takes so I scooped up all 3 :) Each layout is very different, but I liked them all. The company is Shoestring Productions but they have no website yet. Look for them at the Scrapbook Expo when they come to your town, if you're interested. Now, i just have to find some pics to add to these pages & pop them in my scrapbook.

Thanks so much for peeking today. My little one is going on an overnight trip to the aquarium with his class (insert tears here) so I have to get him packed up. It's so hard to let go :( I know he'll have fun. tear, tear, tear...

The Wolfman & my Hubby

Hi friends,
I thought I would share what I gave my hubby for V-day. On Friday, I went with some friends to watch the movie I was waiting for: The Wolfman- very disappointing :( soooo not scary :( Rated R? for whaaaat??? Sorry, I'm rambling. Ok, so my hubby had a hissy fit because I didn't ask him to go. Anyhoo, to make it all better, I thought I'd make a "movie night" just for the 2 of us. Here's what I did:
I put a little kit together. I grabbed a popcorn bucket, 2 classic "old school" coke bottles, some theater candy, and "The Wolfman" DVD, the original--->still the best one :)
(and those chocolate covered almonds, but oopsie, they didn't quite make it :)
I wrapped the bucket in some Valentine's paper:
I cut out "Valentine" with my Love Struck Cricut Cart & stuffed it with all our goodies for our movie night.

Then I wrapped it in cellophane & tied a bow.
I also gave him a V-day card & mailbox. We had a great movie night & all's well that ends well :) He took me to dinner at Woodranch (mmmm, love their tri-tip salad!) Hope you had a great V-day & long weekend :)

PTI Challenge: Embellishment Sheet

Hi friends,
Today I'm participating in Papertrey Ink's challenge: Create an embellishment sheet to share with a friend. It's such a great idea & something I wanted to be a part of. It doesn't hurt that there's a $100 prize up for grabs either ;) Anyhoo, here's my card:

And the inside with the sheet of embellies.

I wanted to keep with the PTI tradition of keeping it simple, so that's what I tried to do with this card.

The flowers are 3 simple layers (white cs, vellum, and red bitty dots paper) with a lemon tart button on top. I used 2 punches- very easy to mass produce. I threaded thin strips of the paper through the buttons. The flowers are on the acetate sheet with removable glue dots.

Thanks so much for peeking! Happy Valentine's Day & big hugs to ya :)

PTI Challenge: Origami

Hey friends,
I created this card for PaperTrey Ink's Challenge: Create something with the Origami style. So here's my card:
My origami piece is the lotus flower I created. To make it, I used tissue paper & added a lemon tart button with a little flower on top- inside for added detail. It was quite easy to make. I placed it on a lily pad card base (Ripe Avocado CS). I used my stylus to create the veining detail on the lilypad.

Here's a side peek of the Lotus flower.

Oooh, got my fingers crossed because the prize is $100 to spend in the PTI Store! If you'd like to make one for yourself, here's a video tut for ya ---> Lotus Flower.
Thanks for peeking!

Heart Pocket Card

Hi ya friends,
Today I have a little project I make with my school kiddos that I've resized for my cards. It's a little heart pocket:

You can add so many little goodies to the pocket. Here are some samples:

Here it's holding some Hershey chocolate hearts:

I call this one: "Have I toad you lately, that I love you?"
It's a marshmallow froggy or toad, I guess :)

I call this one "You're purrfect!" It's a marshmallow Kitty.

I call this one "So hoppy together"  They both fit in together.

Do ya want to see how quick & easy it is to make? Heeeere's the tut:
and the Video tut follows it if you'd rather see it that way:

You'll Need:
4x6 Pattern paper (double-sided is great)
strong adhesive
scissors

The Deets:
Start with a rectangle piece of Pattern Paper (any size). For the front of a standard A2 sized card, you'll need a 4"x6" sheet of paper. Double sided paper is a plus :)

Fold the paper "hot dog fold"- the long way.

Cut a half top heart as shown. You can use a pattern if that helps, I just free hand it.

Unfold it open & you should see the top of the heart:

Now fold the bottom edge towards the top. Line up the bottom edge with the point of the heart (as shown).

Next, think paper airplane folding. Take the right bottom edge & bring it up to meet the middle fold line (as shown).

Do the same thing with the other side:

Now, take the top flap piece & fold it over the 2 triangles as far as it will go. This will create a nice edge for your pocket.

Last, flip it over to the back & adhere the two flaps to the back of your heart pocket.

 Now simply flip it over

And... stick a fork in it 'cause it's done!

You can round the edges of your heart if you'd like:

See easy peasy! Embellish & fill as you wish. Add to a card base with strong adhesive. I used my fav Scor-Tape. I used my Scalloped Heart Nestie (largest die) to create the base card.

Other ways I've used it:
* Don't adhere it to a card base. Punch a hole, string ribbon through it & use it as a tag for a gift box.
**Adhere it to a gift bag as an embellishment
***String a few together to create a cute banner

I'm sure you can think of awesome things to do with it. When my kiddos make it, we use a full sheet of construction paper. The final heart is big enough to hold all the Valentines they get at our Valentine's exchange. It can be done from 1st graders on up. 1st graders will need help. 2nd graders may need help. 3rd graders can do it without help. I do it whole class---> I'm modeling the steps & they're following along.

Quiet on the set... & Action!

Awww Ratatouille! (I say that instead of phooey!) I had more ideas for V-day, but time just flew by. Do you still want to see them or should I save them for the future? They're projects you could change the theme to anything else, but keep the concept, kwim? Just let me know, if you'd like.

Thanks so much for peeking! I hope you liked this simple, but fun little project :)

Shaker Box Love

Hi friends,
Ok, so V-Day is coming up in a few so I thought I'd share 3 more simple projects before the big day arrives. Today I have a super simple treat box made with the Sizzix Shaker Box. I luuuv this die. The box is so versatile & it's a great size for filling with goodies. The best part is that it comes out in one piece & is easy-peasy to put together. Perfect for school treats & has been teacher approved ;) So let me give ya a peek at some of the treat boxes I put together speedy-quick!
 Box #1 closed:
Open: (I added a Hershey chocolate heart)
As you can see, there's room for more, but 1 heart was all I wanted to add.

Box #2 closed:

Box #3 closed:
Open:
I filled it with a marshmallow kitty---> purrfect!
I used a couple of punches to embellish, wrapped some ribbon around it & that's it! So easy peasy, but a cute presentation :) Using 2-sided paper is a plus. You'll get 2 boxes from 1 sheet of 12x12" cardstock.
If you don't have this die, you can create this box with the tutorial I created ---> HERE. (Just scroll down until you get to the tutorial for the box itself.)

ETA: The little crown (and all the other props I use for my cards) can be found at Michael's, it was $3.99 + 40% off :) Nice!

Thanks for peeking! Two more projects before V-day, and if I can get it together, one will be a video tutorial!  :)
