Coffin Box: Take 2

Hi friends,
I'm baaaaaack! I've got version 2 of the coffin box to share with ya today.
So here it is:
This is another 1 sheet of cardstock only box---> very easy to make. It opens by lifting the lid from one side. For this box, I added an embossed top layer, distressed it with white chalk ink to give it that dingy spiderweb look. I made the drag line with stickles & added a red hourglass shape to my spider with red stickles. The "chain" wrapped around the coffin is actually Christmas ribbon. I saw it at Uncle Mike's when I was making my rounds last week & thought it looked like chain. Perfect for Halloween :) It easily slides off the box. So what's on the inside? Let's take a peek:A giant, edible Rosie! (Remember my tarantula Rosie?) There were a bunch of worms in the coffin too, but those mysteriously disappeared...I have no idea where... I've looked all over, but...OK!!!!! I confess.... I ate them!!! I'll go get some more, no worries :)

Coffin Box: Take 1

Hi friends,
As you may know, I'm still a bit sick. Hmm? What's the matter, you ask? Oh, thank you for asking. Well, I've been "coffin" a lot! Booo! Hisss! I know that was a bad one :) But to try to make it up to ya, I do have three different versions of the super awesome coffin box to share. Why three? Well, because 3 is a good number. I like three :) Oh yeah & because each of the coffin boxes has a different way of opening. Today I have version 1 & here it is:
Front view:Sorry for the bad pic :( It was sooooo hard to photograph this well. But there's a bat (covered in black Stickles) at the top.

Side view:As you can see, I used the MS goo punch for the drippy blood! Luuuuv this punch!!! There are spider webs at the corners of the sign.

Here's a peek of what's inside because, after all, like my grandma always says---> it's all about what's on the inside that counts- right? ;)
It's a wrapped Hershey's Chocolate bar. It fits ever so snuggly in the coffin. I had to really fold the edges of the wrapper, but it did fit!

The way this box opens is through the bottom.I think this is the easiest of the three to put together. I really like the fact that it's all one piece & all you need is one piece of 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock.

Sweet Dreamers' Challenge: Cute as a Bug

Hi friends,
Today I have a card I created for the Sweet Dreamers' Challenge this week. Our task was to create a card with a bug on it- and I chose one of my favorite critters- the butterfly. Here are the deets to my card:
I embossed the Crushed Curry CS in the Victorian CB embossing folder. Sprayed the white CS with Tattered Angels Irridescent Gold Spray (I know so hard to capture that in the pic, but it gives it a soft , subtle shimmer), & stamped the flourish in black. (I wish I would have heat embossed it though :( I think it would have looked awesome.) I added black brads to each corner, stamped the sentiment in Dusty Durango. I added the ribbon to the side, cut out my butterfly from BasicGrey Pattern Paper & added a button on top. Not a difficult card at all, but I like, I like :) I'm a bold colors kind of girl so these SU! colors don't scare me. But clowns--> now, they SCARE me!!!

Birthday Balloons

Hi friends,
I wanted to share this birthday card I made for a little girl. I used the flower pot tutorial as inspiration. This is the same thing, but even easier because you don't have to trim any sides! Instead of a flower pot, I created a gift box. Instead of flowers, balloons are escaping from the box. I used glitter paper for the balloons so they're really sparkly. I also added string to each balloon (after I took these pics) & gathered all the ends up & adhered them to the side of the card. It looked really cute that way. (Just picture it in your mind, ok :)

Witch Shoe do you like?

Hi friends,
Today I have these witch shoes to share with you:

I have had this template for a loooooong time, but never used it. I have wanted to make these witch shoes for the longest so I decided this would be the year. Aren't they uber chic ? I had so much fun making them! Well, let me give you peeks at each one:

You may have noticed a little something peeking out.
They're toes!!! AHHHHHH! Not to worry, they're gummy :)


See? It's just a severed foot :)How utterly awesomely gross, right! It just makes me giggle :) I think they need nail polish, don't ya think?

Anyhoo, I thought adding these gummy feet with the toes peeking out of the shoe would be a creepy touch. I haven't decided which candy is going to fill 'em up yet, but the toes will stay.

OK, here are my "Jimmy Boos" errr, I mean Jimmy Choos- one last time :)

It took me SEVERAL tries to get the template the right size but you don't have to worry. I'm sharing the template with you. You'll need 2 sheets of 81/2" x 11" paper if you're using the base & insert. Hopefully, it scanned the same size as mine :) You can omit the insert by using double sided paper, and it will make it even faster to put together. This template came from a back issue of Paper Crafts Magazine that I have.

Edited to Add: I bought the gummy body parts at Walmart or Target (I don't remember exactly- but one of them for sure!)

Celebrate Success- September

Hi friends,
Today, I thought I would share the two projects my school kiddos made to "Celebrate Success." It's a way I recognize those students that have done a great job with homework & their behavior. We do a crafting activity as the prize each month. The requirements to be at each month's Celebrate Success Special Activity are:
1) Have 100 merits (They start with 100 merits & are taken away for no homework, classroom disruptions, problems at recess, or other infractions. They can also earn them back.)
2) Not have 3 Homework Alerts for the month. They get a homework alert for not having homework completed each day.
Anyhoo, I had 12 students (out of 20) who earned the special activity which is pictured above. They made a magnetic bookmark and a little backpack.

Here's the bookmark (they make one that looks like them- this is me)For the bookmark, they got to choose their "mini-me's" clothes, hair style, colors- everything (using my scrap papers & Sizzix dies.) I work the machine, they pick what they want & assemble it.

Now for the backpack:
I really wanted them to make the backpack here, but I thought it would be too hard & time consuming for my 3rd graders. When I looked at it, I realized that basically, the base of the backpack was like a paper bag & "BAM!" just like Blair Warner from the Facts of Life (TV show) "I had another one of my brilliant ideas!" (Hee! Hee!) Why not use a little paper bag? And as you can see, it worked really well & was soooooooooo much easier to make! ( I bought the bags in blue -our main school color- at Uncle Mike's. They come in a package of 16 for $3.99.) They're not regular lunch bag size, they're much smaller.

It is made with many of the same elements as the original backpack with a few changes:
The front pocket is faux. It's just a rectangle with a half circle popped up with foam tape. The top flap was cut out with my Coluzzle template. We added the buttons & the stitching details with a white gel pen. Yes, it does have the ribbon straps on the back too! They do all the work themselves & I help where needed. I punched the holes for the ribbon, and they threaded the ribbon in the holes & taped the ends to the inside.
It closes with a small piece of Velcro.We added some school supplies (erasers, pencil sharpener, mini-pencil, mini-notebook) I bought from Oriental Trading Company at the beginning of the year. They loved them!

I'll give you a peek of this month's Celebrate Success project soon. I hope none of them read my blog so it stays a surprise! ;) For October, it's Halloween themed. (If there's a student who cannot participate due to religious reasons, I provide an alternate activity.) By the way, I didn't bring my camera to school the day we made these & they DID NOT want to leave them until Monday when I could take a picture. :( But I'll ask them to bring their mini-me's so you can check them out. They were so cute!

MOJO107 Polar Bear Wishes

I'm so happy to have finally been able to participate in the MOJO Monday Challenge. I haven't had a chance to join in all the challenges I want to play along with :( but I luuuved this week's sketch & I just got my paws on this stamp. Isn't this polar bear sooo cute! Yeah, except that in real life, ummm, not so cuddly! I stamped the scarf twice (cut & colored with Copics) & popped it up with foam dots. Being the teacher that I am... here are a few Polar Bear facts for ya (just in case you're planning on being a Jeopardy contestant :)

1) Polar bear babies weigh about 1 pound at birth but can grow up to weigh up to 1,500 pounds.

2) Despite what many think, a polar bear's fur is not white. Each hair is a clear hollow tube. Polar bears look white because each hollow hair reflects the light. They have black skin.

3) Polar bear fur is oil and water repellent. The hairs don't mat when wet, allowing the polar bear to easily shake free of water and any ice that may form after swimming.

4) Polar bears have wide front paws with slightly webbed toes that help them swim. They paddle with their front feet and steer with their hind feet. Their paw pads have rough surfaces that helps prevent polar bears from slipping on the ice.

5) They have been known to swim over 100 miles at a stretch.
