Masculine Birthday Card

Hi friends,
Ahhh...Masculine cards... the Jar Jar Binks of cardmaking. Well, at least that's how I feel about them because I really struggle with them *Ü* It isn't because I don't enjoy creating something for the guys in my life, but you have to keep these cards pretty clean and simple- and that's my Kryptonite.

Here's my card:

I used the Chunky Herringbone Stencil (MFT) to create the background. I ink blended with Bashful Blue, Pacific Point, Wild Wasabi, Crushed Curry, and Tangerine Tango inks (Stampin' Up).  I turned the stencil and used the ink left on the stencil to create the shadows. I die-cut a circle from the vellum Fishtail Banner (MFT) and popped it up using the sentiment strip to hide the foam adhesive. I decided to turn the circle into a balloon so I added the balloon tail and string from vellum as well (Party Balloons -Lawn Fawn).

Here's the innie:

I ink blended the bottom with the same ink colors and stamped the sentiment which comes from the Happy Everyday stamp set (Simon Says Stamp).

Even though this card is not dark colors typically associated with more masculine cards, I think he'll like how colorful it is.

For Dad (Video)

Hello there friends,
I'm back with one more Father's Day card with a video!
Here's the card:

I used the Dad + Me stamp set and coordinating dies (Lawn Fawn) for most of the images. I used Brusho colors to create the background (which is so colorful and pretty in real life!) I was inspired by these beautiful cards by my crafty pal, Lisa, where she used Brushos. I picked up a few colors to see if I liked them and WOW!!! They're amazing! It's like the magic of heat embossing lol *Ü* I found that using Brushos was a very organic and effortless way to create the background and despite my Type A,  NO loosey goosey style, these were super fun to work with *Ü* Yes, you will be seeing these again!

I did use the mirror image stamping technique to get the little moose facing Dad moose. I tried it a few ways but ultimately, I thought using the mirror image stamp I showed in the video (as well as in my previous video) gave the best results.

For PaPa (Video)

Hi friends,
 I have a Father's Day card for my sons' grandpa to share today along with a video of how it came together.
Here's the card:

 and the innie:

  I used a Mirror Image stamp (from Rubber Stampede) I've had forever and a day so, I don't know if it is available. However, Paper Smooches and So Suzy Stamps offer versions of the mirror image stamp. I used the mirror image stamp so both cubs are facing PaPa bear. It's a tricky process using that mirror image stamp! But here are a couple of tips I have for you:
1) Using Versafine Onyx Black ink gave the cleanest, darkest impression.
2) Press DOWN FIRMLY on the image to transfer without rubbing or shifting the paper.
3) Use a Copic multiliner (if using Copics) to trace the image so it looks like the original image.

I will apologize in advance about the coloring part of the video... as some of it was out of frame... ok, a lot was out of frame :( lol. but you're not missing much...it was super simple coloring.

Birthday Card and VIDEO

Hi there friends,
Twenty-two years ago, Spring brought me my first bunny, who I named Akoni.  I just knew I was having a girl...so to my surprise, I had a 10 pound baby BOY! I had a girl's name picked out so I had a hard time letting that go so I could choose a boy's name. I looked through an "Ethnic names" book in the hospital and stopped at the A's! Lol *Ü* Akoni.

Akoni is a Hawaiian name and it means "priceless" and I liked that. However there were several times during these 22 years when he wasn't quite so priceless... *Ü*

Today's video shows how I made his simple card.

Happy Birthday, Jordan!

Hello friends,
Every year, March 21st brings about Spring. And with spring...new babies...and I was no exception. 16 years ago, Spring brought me my little bunny named Jordan. I knew he would be my last baby so I really enjoyed every moment of him as a little boy. tear...tear...
Today, I have the card that I made for him.
Here it is:

 Like many teenagers, he enjoys playing video games. So when I saw the Game Controller Dienamics (My Favorite Things) I knew I could make lots of boy cards with it. I used the Herringbone embossing folder (Cuttlebug) in the background, popped up some of the buttons on the controller and coated them with Glossy Accents.

I will be putting in a gift card to Game Stop because I know that's where he'd want to spend his money! *Ü* The sentiment is from Gift Card Greetings II (MFT).

I used this week's MFT Sketch #272.  The simplicity of it was perfect for my son's card.

I have a couple of Thank You cards to share today.
Here's the first:

I really like the color combos in this paper pad- oranges, pinks, grays, and white. It's from the Blomma collection by Jessica Swift & Anna Griffin. I used the small Dainty Bow Dienamics (MFT) on a Stitched Jumbo Fishtail Banner Stax (MFT). The sentiment is from Signature Greetings (PTI) on a Stitched Circle Stax (MFT). The little "THANKS" banner was a freebie I received, but it's from Taylored Expressions. I luved that this card came together speedy quick because there's NO coloring- just pattern paper & die cuts & one sentiment stamp! *Ü*  Yay!

Here's the next card:

This card is going to one of my students who plays guitar in his own band--- hence the theme. The guitar comes from the Accent It: Rock & Roll Dienamics (MFT). The sentiment is from Masculine Graphic Tee (MFT). The "Gracias" is from a freebie from Lawn Fawn.
Here's a closer peek at the guitar:

I added a coat of Glossy Accents all over the guitar to give it that slick look. I also used the Liquid Platinum embossing powder (Ranger) and oh my word---I'm in luv! It is a beautiful color! I die-cut the little stars in in too.

NY Luck

Hello friends,
I have a couple of cards to share today.
My bestie's son is leaving California and heading to New York for work. She threw a little going away party for him. Instead of chips & dip, I brought a card :)

I blended Distress Inks to create the starry night background. I used Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, and Salty Ocean. I stamped the city skyline in versafine onyx black. The image is from a Tim Holtz Stamp, I'm not sure if it's NY, but I thought it would go well in the background. I added lots of clear Wink of Stella to the bottom part of the card so it would look like water shimmering in the moonlight.

 To finish I added a few drops of Glossy Accents here and there. Very simple card.

My second card, I actually forgot to share. I made it for my neighbor for Father's Day.
Here it is:

 He's an AVID golfer so that's the theme I went with. You know me- I LOVE interactive cards so I had to make a spinner element for that golf ball *Ü*

MFT Summer School: Complementary Colors

Hi there friends,
I have created a card for My Favorite Things Summer School 

 This is Lesson 7- Color Theory: Complementary Colors
Def. Complementary Colors do just what their name suggests — they compliment each other. They are found directly opposite one another on the color wheel.

Looking at the color wheel, apart from red and green (Christmas), I don't usually pair up these colors. But I thought I'd try a color duo I haven't really used before. I decided on yellow-violet. I mean if it's good enough for the Los Angeles Lakers...Hey! That's it! And off to get crafty I went *Ü*

Here's my card:

 My youngest son, Jordan, is a BIG Lakers fan (poor kid :(... and no matter how terrible their season is, Jordan still cheers them on. On to the card deets...I embossed the background with a little locker door embossing folder (cute, huh! *Ü*) then I die-cut the T-shirt from white cs and used the stamps from the MFT Jersey & Stamp set dienamics to personalize the shirt. I inked those up with purple & yellow (gold) as well as the "Good Luck" sentiment.

I'm hoping to take him to a pre-season game this year (because even though the Lakers haven't been champions lately, their season ticket prices are as if they were!) and pre-season is within my budget! I thought I would enclose his ticket in this card to surprise him *Ü*

Well that's it for my complementary color card. I see a hand up in the back...question? "Am I a Laker fan, too?" Well, I believe in cheering on the home team(s), and since I'm in Southern California, I do cheer on the Lakers, Clippers, and Golden State (LUV you, Steph Curry!!!) But... my heart bleeds the RED and BLACK...I did name my son JORDAN after all! *Ü*

Make Mine a Double

Hi ya friends,
 I have a couple of cards to share with ya today. The first is for my Dad for Father's Day.
Here it is:

 My Dad is a big carnivore so I stacked up the grill with a steak, hot dog, and burger *Ü* I colored the images with Copics & then spread a little Glossy Accents on the meats to give them that juicy look! Yum!

I used this CAS sketch since I'm going to be mailing it to him, I hoped that keeping it CAS would help me stay away from my usual layers.

The next card uses a stamp set from the bat files!
Here it is:

 So if you've been stamping for a while you might recognize this is a "Who's that Girl" set from My Favorite Things. MFT doesn't carry this line anymore, but I just can't part with them... I don't play with them, but I can't part with them either... sigh...

Here are some deets & another peek:

 I colored the images with Copics. I didn't want a plain background so I used an embossing folder, that to me, looked like a basket weave pattern. I used the excess I trimmed to create the baskets. I inked the embossed paper with brown chalk ink & added them on. The strawberries and apples got a bit of glossy accents and the peaches got a teensy bit of flocking powder so they're a bit fuzzy! *Ü*
I stamped the sentiment on vellum & popped it up with a little clear foam.

I used this week's MFT sketch #232:

I almost didn't play along this week cuz I thought this was a hard sketch! But it kept bugging me so I decided to not over think it & just go with it. So I merged the square & flower element into a general one that is made up of the girl and the basket. I think I made it work *Ü*

You're Smokin' HOT!

Hi ya friends,
Today I'm hopping along with Pretty Pink Posh for the...

I thought it would be fun to join & practice watercoloring since that is probably the hardest color medium for me--- but I do enjoy it!

Here's my watercolor piece: (Sorry, you know my photog skills are worse than my watercolor skills :(

 When I think of watercoloring, I think pretty... flowers & butterflies & such. But I decided I was going to step out of the box & watercolor something F-U-N!   I used a new set I picked up from Lawn Fawn called Let's BBQ. I luuuved the images & punny sayings in this set...however... in my neck of the woods one must specify what someone is "smokin'" because it could NOT be a nice thing... for example: "You're smokin'_____!" (Insert NOT nice thing there.) So I made sure to specify "You're smokin' HOT!" *Ü*

Here's a closer peek at that juicy T-bone on the grill:

 I should mention I used Distress Inks for the whole panel. Even though you can't tell, I used the Wink of Stella pen on the BBQ grill & flames. I mixed Barn Door & Vintage Photo to give that steak a medium cooked look. (Sorry vegetarians...)

Don't ask me why I added a mustard bottle next to the relish sentiment???  Anyhoo, I used the new Wonky Stitches die from Avery Elle to frame the inside panel-LUV!

I thought this would make a fun Father's Day card *Ü* I will list all the Distress Colors I used below.

Giants Father's Day

Hello friends,
 A friend asked me to make a Father's Day card for his Dad. He's a San Francisco Giants fan so I wanted to incorporate that into his card.
Here it is:

 I used the SF Giants colors- orange, black, & white. I embossed the orange layer with a stars embossing folder and the white layer with a wood grain embossing folder. The baseball bats are from  the MFT- DC All Star stamp set.

I tried to make it CAS (my card-making kryptonite) but with all the layers, I don't know if it still counts as CAS. Since I don't think sequins would go on a masculine card, I added a few scattering of stars.
