Dear friends, PLEASE read

Hello dear friends,
My blog = my happy place. I don't know about you, but I blog because I ENJOY sharing my crafting with you & it is my fav form of therapy. If I didn't blog, I would STILL make the same projects I do, when I do. I don't get paid to blog & I have NEVER charged for tutorials or templates that I have shared even though some of my own friends have encouraged me to. Why? because the past year and a half that I've been blogging has been nothing but a positive, amazing experience---> until lately.

I received a comment Saturday for my tutorial on dying ribbon with Tattered Angels glimmer mist. This is what one person left for me to read:

"Ewww- those nails are just nasty gross! First of all, nobody over the age of 15 should wear that much tacky glitter on their nails. Secondly, the huge gouge out of the one on the left is soooooooooo trailer park style! Third thing: Nails that short and stubby should never be polished. Polish should draw attention to nice nails- not stubs! ...... she wrote more MEANER things that I don't even want to continue with and then she concluded her LOOOONG comment with: as for dying the trim; that's a great idea. Thanks for the tip. Just hire a hand model next time!" T***a

Wow... seriously... this woman "liked" my tip but had to rip on my nails! Now I've known of people leaving mean comments on other fellow bloggers' blogs (for whatever mean reason) but I counted myself lucky that I had never had anyone leave mean comments. Even spammers left "nice" comments on my blog! Lol!

So at first, I didn't know how to feel. I was hurt, angry, upset...and when I thought about her last statement, I even chuckled a bit cuz that was the WHOLE POINT of the tut! Hoping that it was a helpful tip/idea someone would find useful!

Ok, so I would no longer post tutorials. I would only post projects related to my obligations to the Design Teams I design for. I deleted the picture that was so offensive from my blog so that it would not cause anyone else any grief. And with that I went to bed.

The next day, I mulled around the house, didn't even want to check my dashboard for comments. I went to Starbucks for my Chocolate White Mocha fix & while sitting in the lounge chair waiting for my cuppa the good stuff, a guy walks in with a t-shirt that read "Mean People Suck!" so I pointed to his shirt & said, "yup, that's true- don't I know it!" so he walks over & we get to talking about this comment on my blog. We sat there for like 1/2 hour talking & giggling- just having a great time! So he left me with some words o' wisdom that I will now follow.

An Open letter to people who feel the need to leave mean comments on other people's blogs:

Dear Mean People,
Hi. I don't know why you feel the need to leave mean comments on other people's blogs other than because you are a horrible, miserable, ugly person on the outside, but especially on the inside. If there's something you don't like or that offends your delicate sensibilities I want to remind you there's a little red X or red button on your browser bar that you can use at any time to leave what offends you. But if you MUST be your nasty, evil self- then at least learn to phrase things so that you get your mean point across without stomping on someone else's feelings with your big combat boots. Remember, you should have learned that in Kindergarten.
The crafting community is by and large made up of truly kind crafters who love to share and be inspired by others. Most of us don't get paid to post on our blogs or to share what we know & create. So all we ask is for you to have the maturity & knowledge level of a kindergartener and know "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Simple. Mean People suck.
Sincerely,
Karli

oh and T***a (who didn't leave me a way to reach her so that we may discuss her comment further) one last thing--->  you SUCK!

So friends, despite this little bump on the road of bloggy goodness, I have decided that I'm going to continue to be ME. I'm still going to wear my pink, glittery nail polish because I LIKE it! and even though I'm no longer 15 (thank goodness, by the way!) I'm young at heart. And I'll STILL continue to share my creations, projects, tutorials, templates (for free) cuz that's who I am. Cuz my blog = my happy place. Cuz in the end, I craft for me first.

I craft with class. 'nuff said.

  3. How awful! Unfortunately we live in a largely materialistic society and some people never learn how to be respectful of others. Don't let this ruin your blogging experience - there are plenty of followers who enjoy the advice you share (and the large majority of us don't care what your nails look like!). It's possible that the person who left the comment didn't even intend to offend; maybe it was just an offhand comment. In any case, keep an open heart and mind & keep up the good work!

  4. (((HUGS))) You have to know that when people make comments like that it ISN'T about you, it is about them. Most of the time you will never know or understand what torment they are going through to make them do things like that; you don't have to. You just have to know that it is about them, not you. Just let it roll off you. I know it can be hard.
One last thing, don't let people talk you out of what you know. You know you like blogging, you know you are good at the crafts and ideas you share. There are a ton of people out there that will try to talk you out of your happiness, don't let them.
I personally LOVE your blog!! I think you have GREAT ideas and how to's. I have even made a few things from your blog and they turned out fantastic.

  5. Hooray for you Karli!! I'm sorry that someone was so mean to you. My mother always told me "People with low self esteem can only bring themselves up, by knocking someone else down." Thanks for not letting this person bring you down.

  6. Karli I'm so sorry that happened to you and you're right Mean People do Suck but remember YOU hold all the POWER. Its your blog!!!! Don't let people like that get to you because honestly that is all they are trying to do is ruin your day. Just hit the DELETE button on the comment and say HA!!! You have no power over me. :) I hope you continue going like normal. I love your blog. Just keep on posting :) Big HUGS!!!!

  7. Karli,

You are right! Mean people DO suck! I hope for everyone of those you will remember there is someone like me that truly enjoys your blog, tips and your creativity. Don't forget, I even sent you an email to tell you so just about a month ago :)!!

  8. hi Karli. I only recently found your blog. Your post stopped me in my tracks. So assy for that person to leave you that comment about your nails (glad she didn't see my recent tutorial - what a field day she would've had!). When someone says or does something mean...I always think that person must not feel good about themselves. Why else would they need to criticize, but to try (in a very lame attempt) to elevate themselves? It's sad, really.

So glad you are rising above the BS!!
Rock on the craftin' with class, Karli!!! You are brave & fabulous!! :)

  9. so sorry that someone almost ruined your blog.
I saw that tutorial and I don't remember your nails, I was concentrating on the steps to dye my ribbon!!!
I did however go back to that post to check out your nails but see that you deleted that pic :-)
Have a great day and keep doing what you do!!!

  10. Mean people suck! I can't believe some one left such a nasty comments. The web makes it to easy for cowardly people to say mean things and then hide away with out having to face the ramifications of their words.

I have no idea what your nails look like, and know what, I don't care. I don't follow your blog for your nails. Your blog and projects are beautiful!

  11. Sorry to hear you've gotten such a rude commenter! It was SO inappropriate! Some people have no shame and don't know how to properly be thankful when someone posts a helpful tutorial.

Don't let mean people get you down. Nasty comments bother me, too, but that's why I turned on comment moderation. I may have to read a nasty comment once (to delete it), but they won't have the satisfaction of seeing it published on my nice blog.

Keep up the good work. The rest of us nice, proper people that read your blog really appreciate you sharing your work! :)

  12. HUGS Karli! I'm so sorry you were the recipient of such nasty, ignorant, blabbering spew.
Isn't it funny how "brave and bold" some people dare to be when the can hide by the anonymity of their computer screen?
I often receive back handed "compliments" that leave me wondering,"how exactly am I supposed to take that?" But I shrug my shoulders (and occasionally share them with my hubby for his impression) and move on, because what else really can you do? I'm not going to let someone's skewed impression hold me back and I'm SO GLAD you aren't either!!
For the one bad comment, how many THOUSANDS of good comments have you received? How many design teams have you been on because your work is so phenomenal that those DT's want YOU to showcase their products or designs??
    I rest my case :)

    More HUGS sweet friend,
    Kristina

  14. Go Karli!!! I take my hat off to you sweetie, I totally agree with you. I was so bummed when I thought you were not going to do tutorials anymore because I luv your creativity & learn a lot from you & soooo appreciate all you do for your blog readers. One BAD person should not get anyone to change the way they blog & I'm so grateful you did not let her get to you. You ROCK...pink glitter nails & all!!!

  15. I have long followed your blog...as someone behind the scenes more just lurking never posting, etc. Thank you so much for posting your feelings and getting them out! I do hope you continue to blog and share! Your adoring fans LOVE it :) Might I also recommend some of the new lovely sparkley glittery polish from OPI in the Burlesque collection! Rock those sparkles and be well!

  16. oh, I am so sorry this happened to you. Don't let it bother you tho! Keep doing what you are doing and be yourself!!

  17. Hey girlie, I for one liked the sparkly polish (need to get some). I'm very sorry that this happened to you. You are one of the nicest, friendliest and kindest bloggers I've met. Glad you've decided to keep on crafting with class. You my friend are a class act! Love all your posts and tutorials, keep them coming. Remember when someone is that nasty, it it about them, not you!

  18. I am glad you are able to move past such a nasty person. I would be truly sad if you stopped blogging and making tutorials. Your creations are AWESOME!

I agree that it is within ourselves that we decide what importance/priority or value information has. So, just give her comment a zero and put it from your mind. It can't hurt you unless you let it.

    You rock!

  19. I can't believe someone would say those mean things too you...first of all, no one has to comment or even look at your blog...but if they don't like something on it...then don't look at it. I personally love your creations and love your tutorials...I will continue to look at your blog and I am glad you are you....Keep standing up for yourself and creating what you love..and wear that sparkly bling...TFS

    ReplyDelete
  20. Don't worry bout' it and carry on. Bring on the glittery polish. She's obviously not into the craft because she doesn't know how to "bling it up" properly. And I am with Nancy, I'm following the steps not the nails. Sheesh. Maybe this is why I've never done a vid... But whatever. Sounds like she's the one with the issue. Not you. Oh, btw, did you call the village and tell them their idiot was missing? Maybe she's lost :)

  21. i can't even believe that someone would have anything nasty to say, your tutorial was wonderful, and I would venture to guess that most of us crafters are too busy having fun and getting messy to worry about the prettiness of our fingernails. How foolish of her to be concerned about something so trivial! Good for you for posting this open letter and I hope you find only good things coming your way!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh Karli, you are right--mean people suck! I can't believe someone is so small and evil to do something like that. She is probably jealous of your talent. Please don't let it get to you and definitely don't give up your glittery nails! I never would! Hope this makes you feel a little better--I have a blog award for you.

    Hugs, Lisa

  23. I agree with you, mean people suck! (((HUGS))) I'm so sorry someone left you a mean comment like that, I wouldn't take it personally some people get their jollies off on making fun of other people.

  24. Karli,
Unfortunately, some people are apparently not happy unless they're making someone else unhappy. I don't understand it, I don't condone it, but there it is.
The only way you can negate, or nullify, what that miserable person has done is to try to IGNORE it. Don't give what she said any credence, any power, any importance.
I love your blog - check it every day - and your projects, and am grateful that you take the time to post the outcome of all your crafty efforts.
    Thank you!

    Wendy T.

  26. ((Hugs)) I can't believe someone would want to ruin not only your day but more. This will stick with you for a long time. She was sooooooooooooo mean. So glad the man with the cool shirt was at the coffee place. What perfect timing! (guardian angel?)I wish I had a magic wand and could take what she wrote to you away!
I believe I have never posted until today. I want you to know I love your blog and have been here daily because I think what you do is fantastic! Love it... love it! Keep on being YOU!...we all love ya!

  27. OMG!!!! As I read your post today, my emotions ran through a full range. First dread at what horrible news you had (something tragic in your life or that you were leaving the blogging world). Then I shock and amazement at the rude comment that was posted. Then I got just plain PO'ed. The person who left the comment obviously isn't "right"!!! Then I laughed and giggled a little at your renewed determination to go on being yourself!!! You go girl!! I love what you do here!! I have used your tutorials for my own projects and been inspired by your creativity. By all means, keep on being you and never grow up before you are ready....it's what keeps us young!! Especially in the classroom. Enormous hugs from one who wears crazy socks nearly every day, finds the craziest hats for hat days, and so on!!! Rock on!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. YOU GO GIRL!! Don't let someone who is obviously a very jealous person get you down. I don't think that I have left you a comment before, but I LOVE your work. You are an inspiration! I will start commenting more instead of just stopping by and saying nothing! Again, keep your head held high!!! We love you!

  29. I wouldn't let what other people think or say control what I do or how I do it. I know that's easier said than done. You do wonderful work and don't let one person change who you are! This is a free country and everyone is allowed their opinion and that is just what it is; her opinion; not everyone elses! Keep up the great work and I look forward to what you have next to share with us.

    ReplyDelete
  30. YOU GO GIRL!!!! Heck, I'm to interested in learning a tut to look at the person's hand, that person is very mean and she should stop and take a really long, good look at herself before she is nasty to anyone! Mary

  31. Good for you. Some people say and do mean things because it is the only way to make themselves feel better. She isn't worth worrying about. I hope she read your letter and feels horrible. You keep on doing what you enjoy and we will keep enjoying it too. Thank you for your talent and kindness to share it with us.

  32. How terribly sad that mean person is. That person is miserable and tries to make everyone else miserable too. You are smart to realize that and will continue to be you. And you are far wiser than her and to rise above it. Very wise indeed. Keep up the good work. There is always one rotten apple in a barrel so just throw it away.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Keep doing what you enjoy and I don't care if you wear nail polish or not! I Love how you have inspired those who visit your blog - People will be mean, don't give them the power to take away your joy. Only you have the power of how you respond to what people say. Be a DUCK in water and let it run off your back. What goes around comes around. They will get theirs in the end - Trust and Believe that!

  34. Oh, Karli, I can't believe the audacity of that person! I love your blog, I love seeing your projects and I love your tutorials!! You are one talented lady, a TRUE CLASS ACT! That other person, on the other hand...well, I can't say out loud how I'm feeling abour her...

Keep on being you. We love you just the way you are! Hugs!

  39. dont' think i could add much more, but i will try...LOL: don't let ONE person stop you from doing what makes you happy! Don't let that person drag you into their unhappy world. it's not worth it! ou are better than they. continue to do what you've been doing. you're great at it and you enjoy it! ignore the stupid comments from stupid people. (btw - she could have simply said 'like the tut. but just fyi...a self manicure may be helpful next time...lol'). anyway....keep being YOU and keep being HAPPY! ((hugs)) and loves!

  40. Karli, I read your note and here's what I think...you are a woman I am honoured to "know" through your blog. The fact that you were a elementary teacher and then 2 weeks after I found you got transfered to a high school and still find time to blog - wow... oh yes and there's that little thing called a family as well as working full time ... wow and on top of that you are amazingly creative...wow x3 but the fact that you can find time to have cute nails too - you are an amazing woman. Add that to the fact that I can't get my nails to keep polish unchipped for longer than a couple of days... so I will follow your blog for the amazingly talented woman you are and wait for her to respond with a way for us working, crafting moms and wives to keep our nails looking beautiful while we live in our busy lives...keep smiling and keep crafting - I love what you do

  41. I'm so sorry that happened to you Karli :( But I am glad that you are going to keep posting and be true to who you are, glittery nails and all. (which I thought were super cute btw) I feel sad for people like that...that person must be having a hard time in her personal life and though it doesn't give them the right to be mean it does make me stop and say a little prayer for their heart to be changed. Thanks so much for your comment on my blog, love your projects! Hugs

  42. WOW - there are a lot of mean spirited people in this world and you almost have to feel sorry for this lady to think that she had to take her frustrations out on your blog. I saw your tutorial and I swear I couldn't tell you if your hands were white, brown, red or green I was just interested in your instructions. I am so happpy that you rose above the insult and plan on continuing with your blog.

  43. Hi Karli, I've just discovered your fab blog and am so, so sorry to see you received such a nasty, stupid post. You are handling it very well - good for you. Have you asked yourself would you rather be T***a or Karli? :)
Don't give this unfortunate episode another thought except perhaps to thank God you are WHO YOU ARE and obviously do not have the troubles/problems T***a has.
